Description
NOTE: Limit ONE Each on “FLAT” or “ROUND” TEATFIRE CARTRIDGES PER CUSTOMER, so we can give all collectors a change to buy them.
Two Cartridge Combo: .32 Caliber “FLAT and ROUND” Teatfire cartridges circular mid 1860s to late 1870s. Excellent condition, patina and some very minor spots, but all-in- all is great condition for 160 year old specimen. The stuff around the bullet is dried up wax, which helped keep the black powder dry. (Own a piece of history!)
How a Teatfire cartridge works:
A Teatfire cartridge works in a firearm by the hammer of the firearm stiking the Teat primer at the bottom of the cartridge, (see Picture) which ignites the black powder, creating high pressure gasses to push the bullet out of the case, similar to what rimfire and centerfire cartridges do today.
.32 Teatfire Patent Ignition cartridges:
In the 1860s there were many cartridge/firearm companies that were trying to get-around or circumvent many Smith and Wesson patents in use at the time period.
One of these companies was Moore/National Arms Company who made the Teat fire revolver, using the patent # 41,183 (for both FLAT and ROUND Teatfire primer cartridges) granted to David Williamson (the inventor) on January 5, 1865 who assigned the patent to Moore fire Arms Company in Brooklyn NY.
