History of the 458 SOCOM Cartridge:
SOCOM refers to United States Special Operations Command.
After the battle in Mogadishu, Somalia in 1993, many officers in SOCOM believed there was a need for a heavier cartridge than the 5.56 NATO or (223 REM) that would develop more power than the 7.62 NATO or (308 Winchester) with the surface diameter of the 45-70.
The 458 SOCOM was developed in 1993 by Teppo Jutsu LLC located in “The Woodlands, Texas”.
The .458 SOCOM cartridge is for use in the AR-15 Rifle and/or Pistol.
The .458 SOCOM is not based off any existing cartridge, but is similar to an elongated .50 AE case necked down to .458″ See picture. Note: 10 (.458 SOCOM) cartridges will fit in the 30 round 5.56 NATO or (223Remington) AR-15 magazine.
Note the extreme rebated rim.
Available in this item 350 grain projectile that will move at 1,900 feet per second and develop 2,405 foot pounds of energy.
