History of proof Cartridges:
Proofs are used to verify or “proof” the mechanical strength of a firearm before it leaves the factory, higher pressure then regular ammunition and should never be fire in your firearm!
The bright dark reddish wash or dye on the base (head stamp) and projectile with nickel case is the U.S. industry standard of identifying these types of cartridges.
Proofs are not normally available to the public, and should NEVER be fired out of you firearms.
History of the .225 Winchester Cartridge:
The 225 Winchester (.22 caliber) semi-rimmed cartridge was introduced in 1964 to basically replace the .220 Swift cartridge in the Winchester Model 70 bolt-action rifle.
Even though the 225 Winchester ballistics were as good as the 22-250 Remington it was never popular due to the 22-250 Remington market share.
Now considered obsolete however Winchester has done special runs from time to time, but at very high retails.
Now obsolete, except for smaller producers making from other calibers. (As of this writing 01/04/2024).
