History of the newer (shorter) .22TCM9R and older (Longer) .22TCM Cartridge:
2012:
The .22 TCM (TCM for Tuason Craig Micro-magnum or the custom gunsmith; Fred Craig and Martin Tuason, President of RIA (Rock Island Armory) Armscor. A proprietary bottle-necked rimless cartridge developed by Armscor for their Rock Island 1911 style pistol in late 2011 and introduced in early 2012,
Originally the .22TCM was designed by shortening the .223 Remington case (not the 9mm Luger case as many people believe to be true) however when put into product, the thickness of the .22TCM rim was increase to allow better functioning in a 9mm pistol, making it it’s own (non-wildcat) cartridge.
With a velocity at 2,100 feet per second in a pistol and up to 2,800 feet per second in the rifle, this cartridge may give the 5.7x28mm FN a run for it’s money.
2015:
With the advent of the .22TCM9R Glock Conversion, around 2015, by changing the barrel and recoil spring from 11 pounds to 8 pounds in a 9mm Glock pistol, you could convert it to from the 9mm Luger to .22TCM9R, but not the longer .22TCM, as the shorter .22TCM-9R or “9R” which has a deeper seated 39 grain bullet in the case, to create a shorter overall length than the .22TCM cartridge to fit in the Glock 9mm magazines, and later the Single Stack RIA 1911 .22TCM9R pistol.
Many of the RIA 1911 style pistols come with two barrels (9mm Luger and longer .22 TCM or the shorter .22TCM9R) and different weight springs, the the RIA 1911 style pistols come in double or single stack magazines.
